While I'm Alive

When I think of those who 

are no longer with us

it makes me appreciate

my life that much more

While I'm alive
unlike them

I can still smile

read a new book

laugh with friends and family

smell flowers

bask in sunshine
gaze at the sea

drink a cup of coffee  

listen to rain

thrive on music

take walks
travel to lovely towns

and big cities

take photographs

savor a meal

enjoy television

write poetry 

tell a joke

experience miracles
and answered prayers
meet new people
engage in conversation
attend a show
marvel at art
perhaps even fall in love
or finally write
that novel

Because while I'm alive

I can keep experiencing
 good things and new things

And possibilities are endless
